Welcome! Hoppn Hollow Bunny Buds Rabbitry was founded in 2005 after purchasing pet rabbits at The Topsfield Fair. We never even thought we would get this into it! But now years later and here we are breeding, showing and selling rabbits for pets & show! We are a family of five out of Danvers and Beverly Massachusetts. There is Mike (Dad), Paula (Mom), Stefani (The older sister), and Melissa the youngest. The fifth member of our family is Michael, the oldest. He isn't into rabbits but he's always here when we need his help! Also a part of our rabbitry is my cousin, Caitlyn. She practically lives here and has rabbits in our herd of her own. In case you haven't noticed, we breed Holland Lops, French Lops, Mini Lops and Palominos, those are our main breeds. However, we also breed Netherland Dwarves, Polish & Lionheads-they are not our main focus breeding wise as we only have a handful of these breeds. It might sound like a lot but it's really easy when you have many hands to help out! We have a huge extending family and we are all really close! We are NOT your typical rabbit breeders...we treat our rabbits like pets, not merchandise! They get play, excercise and cuddle time everyday...yes, each and every one of them. Don't be shy about asking questions, we are all very well educated on rabbit care and can answer just about any question you want to ask! We have two dogs, Lexie and Lola (read more about the dogs on the Pets Page) and we find them absolutely amazing. They are number one in the household and even help socializing the bunnies with dogs and other pets that may be in a household when say a baby rabbit goes to it's new home. We also have a 15 year old red eared slider turtle, you can view more about her on the Pets page. We are members of Great Scott's 4H Rabbit & Cavy Club, The American Rabbit Breeder's Association, Essex County Rabbit & Cavy Breeder's Association and 4 Paws for 4H Dog Club! We spend almost all of our time at The Topsfield Fair during the week it runs. The 2010 dates are October 1-11th. Come visit us! We will be there and are rabbits will also be on display!
~The Rabbitry~
Our main focus is personality and all our rabbits are our pets first and foremost. The bunnies get cuddle time and excercise everyday, yes...every single one of them.
FAQ:
Are your rabbits kept indoors or outdoors?
Most of our rabbits are outside in an unheated barn, but it is very warm in there. Really only when you open windows is when it gets cold. In the summer the windows are open and the winter they are closed, we do however have vents in the bran to circulate and move air. We also have numerous hutches outside where rabbits go out in warm weather, but many large breed rabbits stay out all winter if the weather isn't too crazy. We also have a screenhouse we temporarily use once in a while for quarantine purposes and ALSO we have a heated basement if rabbits for any reason need to come indoors. We never have them all inside and it's very rare there are any in the house except for socializing purposes with the dogs.
Do the rabbits get along with the dogs and vice versa?
YES! All of our rabbits are extremely comfortable in the company of our two big dogs Lexie & Lola. They are all properly socialized directly when we get them so that they have no fears. The dogs actually love the rabbits! HOWEVER, we had the rabbits before we had the dogs so they were socialized to the bunnies as very young puppies and their "hunting instincts" were basically demolished. Even if you have a dog before a rabbit, you MUST watch the dog. They will eventually get along-proper introduction is key**
